Breast-milk feeding for premature babies.
A collaborative work by international experts, edited by Thomas Kühn.
Thomas Kühn, senior physician at the Perinatal Center Berlin-Neukölln and IBCLC, had the wonderful idea for this book. Thomas Kühn and I have known each other for a long time through shared training projects. Breast-milk feeding, breastfeeding the premature baby, stress reduction and growing up in security are topics close to both our hearts.
The book aims to inform and to help change existing structures in clinics — many hospitals struggle to meet the needs of children and mothers.
My contribution
My chapter is primarily about breastfeeding support for mothers of premature babies in outpatient care. What can be done to support milk production after hospital discharge? How does the baby learn to breastfeed when the hospital didn't offer enough opportunity? How does a mother gain confidence when bottle-feeding has been the norm?
